Teacup Pigs May Not Have Something for Everyone

Teacup pigs are hitting the news these days much like the craze that went on with the pot-bellied pigs some years ago. But, unlike that fad, these new smaller and i must admit, a bit more adorable descendant of the pot belly pigs seem to have quite a bit more appeal and their popularity looks like it could be here to stay with us for quite some time. Several of the news media outlets have been publishing stories lately (including The Today Show) and the craze for the teacup pigs is in full swing in Britain.

What the news media did not bring to light, is that this craze has already begun here in the U.S. and the masses (well those  that can afford $1600 and up anyway) are scurrying to get their hands on these little new born 9 ounce wonders. Make no mistake, breeding makes all the difference, and the smaller these creatures stay, the more their worth..go figure heh? But if your not careful picking the right line of pig, you may end up with a friend that is well over 80-100 pounds. Now that may not sound like a whole lotta pig, but if you’ve ever had a large dog living with you, this can be a bit much to have around the house all the time.

The information coming up these days is quite a bit more clear and accurate, and the described weight of 45-60 pounds for micro min and teacup pigs is about what we have found. We have yet to see a 25 pound pig full grown, even the one’s described as “super” micro minis. So if your still not swayed by some of the possible problems you may have in selecting a pig that will be around 50 pounds full grown, then read on.

The teacup pig is an adorable pig, as proven in the story done on The Today Show, and the resounding sound of “ahhhhhhs” you hear from your own home along with the neighbor next door. Now of course you would spend quite a bit of time (weeks or even months) picking out a pure breed dog or cat from a breeder, so if you take your time and find the right line of micro or teacup pig for your home, you will be much happier. Remember, all animals require serious time, work and effort along with lots of love and companionship, so take the time to learn the facts before you buy the amazing little creatures.
